MUMBAI: Jet Airways, India's premier international airline, has achieved a major milestone - the induction of the 100th aircraft into its fleet. The airline accepted a brand new, Next Generation Boeing 737-800 with sky interiors in Seattle on November 15, 2011.

The 100th aircraft will be the third all new Boeing 737-800 configured with 8 Premiere and 162 economy seats, and will commence commercial operations from December 5, 2011. New improved passenger service units and a significantly quieter cabin will add to the comfort of the guests. Another feature that will most definitely be appreciated by guests are the new pivot bins, which afford greater overhead bin capacity for storage. The new Boeing 737 - 800 aircraft also possess superior on board, sound quality and clarity through new speakers that have been improved in each passenger row. The all new Sky Interiors with curved cabin architecture further provide a feeling of openness and space.

The all new Boeing 737-800 will also be replete with bright new colors and décor of the aircraft with modern, sculpted sidewalls and larger windows, combined with the effect of the light-emitting diode (LED) lighting significantly enhancing the sense of spaciousness in the cabin. Besides, the LED lighting can portray different color schemes like a soft blue sky and a relaxing pallet of sunset colors, while providing for maximum efficiency and lower maintenance costs.

Importantly, Jet Airways Konnect had set about its mission of becoming the preferred airline for its guests in India as early as 1993 by flying the most modern generation, fuel-efficient Boeing 737-300 aircraft in Indian skies.

In December 1996, Jet Airways signed a Purchase Agreement with the manufacturer for the acquisition of 10 Boeing 737-400/800 aircraft, thus becoming the country's first private airline to acquire its own fleet of new aircraft.

Jet Airways was the first airline in Asia to fly the Next Generation Boeing 737-800, barely seven months post the commercial induction of such aircraft in the United States. The airline was also the second airline in Asia to induct the Boeing 737-900 aircraft, besides being the second airline in the world to operate Next Generation B737-700/800/900 aircraft.

Later on in 2007, Jet Airways embarked on the first phase of international expansion with the induction of wide-bodied Airbus 330-200 aircraft in 2006 and Boeing 777-300ER aircraft in 2007.

Nikos Kardassis, Chief Executive Officer of Jet Airways, said "The delivery of our 100th Aircraft is a major milestone for everyone at Jet Airways. The airline has always chosen to utilize the very best in next generation avionics to ensure superior quality, reliable service and above all customer satisfaction. A case-in-point being the fact that we were the very first airline in India to fly the modern generation, fuel-efficient Boeing 737-300 aircraft in Indian skies. Later the induction of the Boeing 737 - 800 made Jet Airways the first airline in Asia to fly the Next Generation aircraft, barely seven months post its commercial induction in the United States. We are also happy to have worked closely with GE Capital Aviation Services (GECAS) as a partner since 1995 and look forward for more fruitful affiliation in the years to come as Jet Airways plans to expand its domestic and international network."

The airline post the acquisition of its 100thaircraft, will fly to 76 destinations, including 24 international destinations making it one of the fastest growing airlines in the world.
Last year, Boeing upgraded the cabin of its Boeing 737 with new features for instance LED lighting, larger overhead bins and new ceiling panels. It says the changes are cost-effective. For instance, the new lights inside cabin are longer lasting and energy efficient, with an estimated 40,000 hours life in between replacements. This compares with 4,000 hours for the previous typical of lights.

Jet is the first Indian air carrier to acquire Boeing 737s with these features.

Air India Express and SpiceJet also operate Boeing 737s.

Announcing Boeing's industry forecast for India, Keskar stated Boeing had an order book of 110 planes from India, for instance 37 Boeing 787s for Air India and Jet Airways and Boeing 737s for Jet Airways and SpiceJet. The deliveries will be complete in five years. The first Boeing 787 to Air India will be delivered inside last quarter of 2011.

The plane manufacturer estimates India will require 1,320 planes over the following 20 many years but Keskar feels there will be no demand for an Airbus A380 or a dedicated cargo freighter from India. More than 80 per cent on the required planes would be narrow system ones like the 737 or the Airbus A320, he said.

He stated the Boeing management was yet to decide whether to overhaul the engine on the 737 or to develop an altogether new plane for this segment.Kuldeephttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13982131925226594860noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6879731134410225070.post-14126458304681136782011-07-03T23:32:00.000-07:002011-07-03T23:32:32.296-07:00MMRDA tells Jet to pay Rs 101-cr penalty for delayThe Mumbai Metropolitan Country Development Authority (MMRDA) has decided to slap a penalty of Rs 101 crore on Jet Airways for failing to carry out construction over a plot it had bought in Bandra-Kurla Complex (BKC) in August 2006.

Jet, that is certainly carrying a debt burden of nearly Rs 13,500 crore, has appealed to MMRDA to waive the penalty, citing a troubled aviation organization and slump from the commercial realty market. The penalty amounts to a third on the original price of Rs 341 crore Jet paid to your 2.5 acre plot.

Under MMRDA rules, the winning bidder for a plot in BKC has to finish construction within four years of signing a lease. On expiry of this period, developers can get a maximum three-year extension provided they pay 10 per cent on the land’s significance for every on the first two years and 15 per cent to your third year, as penalty.

“Since Jet has just about dug up the basement on the plot, we estimate that the project will take three years to become completed. In accordance with our calculations, the penalty will add as much as Rs 101 crore,” said Deputy MMRDA Commissioner A R Wankhede.

She's 52, the owner of a successful placement business, a motivational speaker, an aerobic Instructor, a part-time social worker and she's visually impaired. Preeti was never made to feel incapable all her life, until she boarded a private airline.

"I mentioned at the counter that I need special handling just as I had done earlier and they said that you are not allowed to fly as you are blind," Preeti said.

On May 10, 2010 Jet Airways stopped her from boarding its flight to Delhi all because she is blind.

"When we are working thousand times harder than a sited human being, you have no right to disrespect and hurt somebody's feelings," Preeti said.

Preeti was allowed to board the plane only after filling a form that's meant for unaccompanied minors. But she is not alone. Shabnam Mansoori, a Kingfisher passenger was asked to get off the plane in May 2011 for the same reason.

"The airlines staff asked me to get down from the aircraft as I am visually impairend." Shabnam said.

According to Section 3 of Civil Aviation guidelines which came into effect from the May 1, 2008 no airline can refuse to carry persons with disability or persons with reduced mobility provided such persons inform the airline of their requirement at the time of booking or check-in for travel.

But sadly most airlines follow these rules only on paper. The question is how many more differently disabled people like Preeti and Shabnam will be turned away before the DGCA and the Civil Aviation crackdown on defaulting airlines and enforce the norms.
"We are still studying the feasibility of joining such a venture," the executive, who didn't want to be named, said. "There is no final decision yet."

The executive said Jet Airways will need to consider its current partnerships with other airlines worldwide before arriving at any decision on joining the venture.

The venture between the four airlines will likely include operational partnerships such as code-sharing on airline tickets, cooperation on client reward programs as well as other services such as engineering on some overseas routes, the Jet Airways executive said.

Joining such an alliance would likely help Jet Airways to cost-effectively expand its overseas operations, leveraging the global network of the three other airlines instead of deploying its own aircraft.

It would also pave the way for the Mumbai-based airline to enter the SkyTeam Alliance--a 13-member global airline group led by Delta and Air France-KLM.

National carrier Air India Ltd. plans to join Frankfurt-based Star Alliance, the biggest airline group in the world, while Kingfisher Airlines Ltd. will soon join the Oneworld alliance.

The airline is seeking at operating wide entire body airplanes in some of the congested domestic routes inside the summer schedule. “From the summer schedule, we is going to be operating wide bodied Airbus A330s in a few of our flights to and from Delhi, Mumbai and Chennai as the congestion at airports limit the range of flights we can operate,” stated a senior Jet Executive, requesting anonymity.

The airline operates single-aisle Boeing 737s or Airbus A320s with close to 160 seats per aircraft for domestic routes. The wide-bodied aircraft will provide close to 230 seats per aircraft, allowing the airline to have a lot more ability with much less range of flights.

“Initially, we plan to take close to 2 A330s either on lease or on sale and operate close to 20 flights,” the executive said. The Naresh Goyal-owned Jet Airways operates more than 400 flights daily to 67 destinations worldwide.

Infrastructure constraints because of upgrade jobs at Mumbai and Chennai airports have drastically brought down the ability of these airports and has forced airlines to drastically cut down the range of flights. Mumbai airport has been the worst hit from the main runway closed for eight hours every day from Monday to Saturday. With domestic travel growing in double digits post-slowdown, airlines wanted 573 daily slots inside the airport, but has managed only 490.

In mid-November, the Delhi-Mumbai sector saw a 200-300 per cent start in fares, attributed to many factors, including a lot more demand chasing much less capacity.

Meanwhile, Jet Airways has rolled back the salary cut of its more than 10,000 employees from January. The airline had done a partial rollback from the pay cuts in July last year.
